The last stretch of rehab, run by people who live on sidelines
Pain free is not the finish line for an athlete. The finish line is cutting at full speed, landing off a rebound, throwing from the hole at short, or making a tackle without a flicker of doubt in your head. Getting there is a different job from calming an injury down, and it is the one athletic trainers are built for.
In Texas, athletic trainers are licensed healthcare professionals trained in injury prevention, emergency care and return to sport. Here they work alongside your physical therapist. Your PT runs the medical side of the plan. The athletic trainer puts you through the drills that look like your sport, watches for the little compensations that lead to re injury, and pushes when it is time to push.
How we decide you are ready
No guessing and no calendar math. You go back when the numbers and the movement both say so.
Strength side by side
We compare the injured side with the healthy side. Big gaps mean more time in the gym, not a trip back to practice.
Hop and landing tests
Single leg hops, jumps and landings show whether a knee or ankle can take load the way your sport will ask it to.
Sport drills on our floor
Cutting, sprinting, reacting and sport movements at full speed, right here on our training floor.

Return to play questions
What is the difference between an athletic trainer and a physical therapist?
Both are licensed in Texas. Physical therapists evaluate, diagnose movement problems and write your plan of care. Athletic trainers specialize in sport, injury prevention and getting athletes back on the field. Here they work on the same plan together.
How do you decide an athlete is ready to return to play?
We compare strength side to side, run hop and landing tests, and watch you do the real movements of your sport at full speed. When those line up and your surgeon or physician agrees, you are ready.
Can you work with my school athletic trainer or coach?
Yes, and we like to. With your permission we share the plan and the return date so everyone is working toward the same thing.
Do you only work with high school athletes?
No. We see middle school kids through adults who still run, lift and play in rec leagues. The testing just gets matched to your sport and your level.
Close to getting back on the field?
Tell us the sport, the injury and the date you are aiming for. We will tell you honestly what it takes to get there.
